Protect Your Health:
Colon Cancer Screening and Polyp Management
Why Screen for Colon Cancer?
  • Screening can find precancerous polyps that can be removed before they turn into cancer.
  • Identifying colon cancer early increases the chances of curative treatment and survival.
  • Regular screenings help you stay ahead of potential health issues.
Managing Large Colon Polyps
  • Minimally Invasive Procedures: All non-cancerous or precancerous large polyps can be removed using endoscopy with minimally invasive techniques such as endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) & Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), no matter their size or location, and do not need surgery.
  • Preserve Digestive Health: Surgery usually involves removing part of your organ and requires a hospital stay of three to ten days. Endoscopic removal of large polyps are cheaper than surgery and can often be done as outpatient procedures or with just one to two days of observation in the hospital.

Advanced endoscopic resection techniques

Endoscopic mucosal resection

  • EMR is used to remove large polyps, usually those over 15-20 millimeters.
  • After finding the polyp, a special dye solution is injected under it to lift it away from the deeper tissues.
  • The doctor then uses a tool called a snare to safely remove the polyp.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection

  • For polyps that are too large for EMR or for early cancerous lesions, the doctor uses a more advanced and time-consuming technique called ESD.
  • In ESD, a dye-mixed solution is injected into the deeper tissue layer (submucosa) to lift the polyp or lesion.
  • The doctor then uses an electrosurgical knife to cut and remove the polyp or lesion in one piece for a complete pathological assessment.
