Our Vision

Dr. Ashutosh Mohapatra, MD, DM

Trained at the Osaka Cancer Center and the National Cancer Center in Japan, Dr. Ashutosh Mohapatra is a nationally acclaimed gastroenterologist and a pioneer in early gastric cancer detection in India. He made history by publishing a groundbreaking paper in an international journal, demonstrating that endoscopically, detection of gastric cancer at an early stage is possible in Indian population and can be treated endoscopically without surgery.

In 2020, Dr. Mohapatra established the Sai Institute of Gastroenterology and Liver Sciences (SIGLS), significantly raising the standard of care in Eastern India. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies, including the Endocytoscope, SIGLS is dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable medical care. Dr. Mohapatra not only introduces advanced medical technologies but also leads initiatives to raise public awareness about gastro and liver health.

Dr. Sonmoon Mohapatra, MD

Dr. Sonmoon Mohapatra is a senior consultant and Director of Advanced Endoscopy at the Sai Institute of Gastroenterology and Liver Sciences in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. She completed her medical education at Stanley Medical College, Chennai, and then pursued a three-year Internal Medicine residency and a three-year Gastroenterology fellowship at Saint Peter’s, Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, NJ, USA. During her training, she also served as a Visiting Research Fellow at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and Johns Hopkins University Hospital, USA.

After her gastroenterology fellowship, Dr. Sonmoon Mohapatra further specialized in advanced endoscopy and advanced luminal endoscopy with an additional two-year training at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ, USA. Following her extensive training in the United States, she returned to her hometown to serve the people of Odisha. Dr. Mohapatra is committed to advancing the Sai Institute by integrating state-of-the-art equipment and cuttingedge technologies to provide exceptional healthcare. She has multiple publications in national and international journals, with research interests including the endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal malignancies, premalignant lesions, early gastrointestinal cancers, and pancreatic and biliary diseases.
